Other Prot-EFA™ Nutrients
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is one of the many known antioxidants, which protect
your body’s cells from the damaging effects of oxidation
and free radical damage.
There are two forms of Vitamin E:
- Tocopherols.
- Tocotrienols.
Both of these antioxidants are oil soluble (able
to be dissolved in oils) and in fact, are what gives Prot-EFA™ Oil
its exceptional stability (1 year shelf life).
Science has shown
that tocopherols and tocotrienols help:
- Reduce oxidative stress by scavenging free radicals.
- Help reduce heart disease.
- Help reduce the effects of aging. Phytosterols
Phytosterols are essentially “plant fats” and are good
for human consumption. Researchers are finding more and more of
the benefits of these plant “good” fats.
Phytosterols:
- Reduce the levels of “bad cholesterol” (LDL), while
maintaining healthy levels of “good cholesterol” (HDL).
- Enhance the immune system.
- Can have a significant beneficial effect on diseases like eczema,
diabetes, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Dietary Fiber
Dietary fiber is either classified as soluble or insoluble. Prot-EFA™ contains
both fibers. Soluble fibers dissolve in water and may maintain
proper cholesterol levels by removing the stomach acids that digest
fats. Insoluble fiber helps move body wastes more quickly, preventing
constipation.
Calcium and Potassium
The Prot-EFA™ Nutritional System also contains potassium
and calcium. Calcium is an important nutrient that, along with
protein, helps in structuring DNA and RNA. It is also important
in maintaining bone mass. Potassium is used in transmitting nerve
impulses and is a required mineral for building muscle tissue.
Phytoestrogens
Phytoestorgens are a naturally occurring plant nutrient that
exert an estrogen-like action on the body. Scientists have
discovered
hundreds of phytoestrogens including soybeans, whole grain cereals,
seeds (especially flax and cranberry), nuts and many herbs.
Lecithin
Lecithin is a fatlike substance called a phospholipid. With a
proper diet, it is naturally produced by the liver. Lecithin
is needed
by every cell in the body and is a key building block of cell
membranes. Without proper levels, the membranes would harden.
It is also a
fat emulsifier, which supports the circulatory system. Lecithin
protects cells from oxidation and largely comprises the protective
sheaths surrounding the brain. It is composed mostly of B vitamins.
Carotenoids
Carotenoids are what provide bright coloration in some plants
and fruits. They are essential ingredients (must be provided
by diet)
and serve as antioxidants. They can also be a valuable source
for vitamin A activity. Beta carotene, lutein, and astaxanthin
are
all carotenoids. |
